Constanta (in Roman period,
Tomi or Tomis) it is a town (342,394 residents) of the
Romania situated on the bank eastern of the
Black Sea and capital of the homonymous county. It is an important port and an industrial center of large importance.
In the neighborhoods of the town the famous baths find themselves, that, together to the clean sea, attracted millions of tourists every year. The main industries of the town are those of the tanning and the manufacture of petroleum drums. To north it is found the resort
Mamaia.
From a considerable number of enrollments reached has deducted that
Constanta it is found in the neighborhoods of the ancient site of Tomi. This town, notes also like Tomis, was a Greek colony of the province of the
Scythia, on the shore of the Black Sea, been based on in 500 B.C. like commercial base for the exchanges with the populations of the
Dacia.
After the split of the Roman empire Tomi passed under the sphere of influence of the Byzantine empire.
Tomi was then reelected Constantiana in honor of
Flavia Julia Constantia, the stepsister of
Constantine the Big (274-337). The town rises to the end of the neighboring stroke to the sea of the Large Wall of Trajan and door the marks of actual fortifications.
