Lisbon it is the capital and also the larger town of the
Portugal, with 564,657 residents, while the urban area has more of 3 millions of residents, equal to about a third one of the whole Portuguese population.
The town was been based on from the Phoenician with the
name of Alis Ubbo. The Romans renamed it
Olisippo, name that became subsequently Olissipona, then Lissapona and finally
Lisboa. In the VIII century the town was gained from the Arabians coming from the
North Africa and it stayed under the Arabic domination it does to the it reconquers of the first one
king of the Portugal in the XII century.
From the town a lot of shippings in the centuries left that go from the XV to the XVII to the period of the large journeys of exploration.
In the November of 1755 a large earthquake destroyed the town, that ready was rebuilded from the projects of the marchese

The town is situated to the mouth of the river
Tagus. The two banks of the river
Tagus are connected from two large bridges, the Bridge 25 April inaugurated in 1966 and the bridge
Vasco da Gama, inaugurated in 1998 in occasion of the universal exhibition
Expo '98. In that occasion have celebrated the 500 years of the discovery of the maritime passage for
India aside of the navigator
Vasco da Gama.
